Master of Work and EmploymentRelations/Master of Business Law

This double masters degree is designed to develop practitioner skills on a comprehensive analytical and conceptual basis. It is ideally suited to those working in employment relations and human resources and is designed to increase employment opportunities in public practice, industry or academia. The course focuses on the workplace, while making the necessary connections with the broader institutional and legal framework. It will prepare graduates for the growing opportunities in the area of legal compliance.

Entry requirements

A degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution and a minimum of two years employment experience (full-time or equivalent). or
An executive certificate from the faculty with a minimum credit average.

Six compulsory units:

  • BTX5080 Workplace negotiations
  • BTX9070 Labour relations law
  • MGX5130 Equity and diversity in the workplace
  • MGX5620 Pay, participation and performance

One of the following:

  • MGX5610 Work and employment relations in a global context
  • MGX9220 Work and employment relations
  • MGX9850 Human resource management

Plus four business law units chosen from:

6 units – two of these electives may be from other faculties of Monash University.
A research option is available with permission of the course coordinator. Students enrolling in this option will complete MGX5000, MGX5901 and MGX5900 as part of their elective component.
