Master of Business (Science and Technology)

The Master of Business (Science and Technology) is offered in collaboration with the Monash Asia Pacific Centre for Science and Wealth Creation.
The key element of the Master of Business program that differentiates it from other programs is its specific intent to assist students in planning the commercialisation of leading edge medical, scientific and technology research projects.

Features of the program:

  • Provides science and technology students with essential business skills in order to further their careers
  • Customised to suit science and technology students
  • Delivered intensively using a range of methods including block and semi-block mode teaching, seminars and practical work.

This course will provide you with the knowledge and impetus to take your career in many directions, including:

  • Entrepreneur in a science-based start-up company
  • Management in science-based companies
  • Science policy development
  • Advisor on scientific projects within the banking, finance and investment community
  • Project management and consulting
  • Research and development management/administration
  • Scientific research (with the advantage of understanding its role in the economy)

Overall the program is comprised of units from the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Business and Economics, and introduces students to business concepts including: commercialisation planning, intellectual property and patents, marketing, accounting and finance, law, economics, and contemporary management issues.

Graduate Certificate in Commercialising Research

This four-unit graduate certificate is a qualification for those students currently pursuing higher degrees by research and who wish to enhance their skills and knowledge in how to commercialise their research.

The following areas will be covered in the course:

  1. The commercialisation processes and activities commonly employed to bring research based ideas, inventions and innovations to the market
  2. Intellectual property management
  3. Interpersonal skills relevant to research commercialisation activities including leadership, teamwork and presentation skills
  4. An elective from a technical commercialisation area, either marketing, management or accounting.
